CLOSENESS TO HASHEM (GOD)

How To Be Close To God

Kabbalist Rabbi
YAAKOV ADAS

He was born in the Beit Vagan neighborhood of Jerusalem to his father, Rabbi Yehuda Adas, Rosh Yeshivat Kol Yaakov, son of Rabbi Yaakov Adas, one of the heads of the Porat Yosef Yeshiva, a member of the Great Rabbinical Court and a member of the Chief Rabbinate Council, and grandson of Rabbi Avraham Chaim Adas. His mother, Rebbetzin Bila Rachel, is the daughter of Rabbi Dov Cohen, who was the Air Force’s first military rabbi, and the great-granddaughter (on her father’s side) of Simcha Mandelbaum. In his youth, he studied at the Kol Torah Yeshiva and the Kol Yaakov Yeshiva headed by his father. After his marriage, he lived in the Beit Vagan neighborhood. He studied with the Kabbalist Rabbi Yitzchak Kadouri for seven years. Rabbi Adas is prominent in the customs of asceticism and celibacy. He rarely gets a haircut and changes his clothes. He wears a tallit at all hours of the day. Some have interpreted his wanderings between yeshivas as an “exile” he imposed on himself as some rabbis did in previous generations. He is currently staying at Rabbi David Batzri’s Yeshivat Hashalom. Rabbi Adas gives lessons from time to time in the Western Wall plaza, and other yeshivas and synagogues his lessons deal with the Gemara, Halacha in practice, morals, faith, and Kabbalah. He prays with stormy weeping and effort. In recent years, he has been the regular cantor in the Kabbalah according to the Rashash’s intentions in the morning prayers at sunrise at the Western Wall. He also participates in the Midnight Tikkun every Thursday night in the Western Wall tunnels, with Rabbi Benyahu Shmueli Rosh Yeshivat Nahar Shalom. Rabbi Yaakov Adas has authored dozens of books in various fields. He makes sure to print his books without punctuation. His books also include sermons on topics such as Kabbalah, Talmud, women’s modesty, education, and dealing with youths who have gone astray. In some books and pamphlets, he claims to have supernatural powers and he teaches people in his books how to achieve such powers.

In this book, he teaches and shows how everyone can be close to God.
